As we continue to social distance and many are working from home, the injuries from poor ergonomics in these “temporary” workspaces continue. Dr. G discusses this with television reporters from ABC news adds some tips for how to prevent shoulder pain while working from home.

  • Working from home during the pandemic? Poor ergonomics can lead to shoulder issues.

1.Take time out of every hour to stand up, and stretch
2.Be mindful of your posture and try to have your screen up high for a straight ahead gaze
      3.Keep your shoulder blades strong

  • Contracture and transient receptor potential channel upregulation in the anterior glenohumeral joint capsule of patients with end-stage osteoarthritis

Just published in @JSESmedia. Very excited to present work with top tendon and capsular biology researcher @DianneLittlePhD and team. The anterior capsule in shoulder arthritis is tight, inflamed and thickened. This has implications for the CAUSE of arthritis, implications for possible treatment of arthritis and stiffness. Stay tuned! @mor_docs

During anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) for primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GHOA), the anterior shoulder joint capsule (ASJC) is characterized grossly by contracture, synovitis, and fibrosis. In tissues that develop fibrosis, there is substantial cross-talk between macrophages, fibroblasts, and myofibroblasts, modulated by calcium signaling and transient receptor potential (TRP) channel signaling.

Just published in @JSESmedia great study with @FLshoulderdoc @AnthonyRomeoMD J Cancienne and @nicholson_md. Proud to be a part of it. Bottom line: Reverse TSA works as a salvage for failed anatomic, but not as good as primary. Conclusion: Get it right the first time!!! @MOR_docs

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) as a revision procedure for failed anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is increasing in incidence. The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of RTSA as a revision salvage procedure for failed TSA and identify factors that influenced those outcomes.

Just published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery: influence of baseplate design on compression for reverse total shoulder. That great “bite” you feel with the DJO Global monoblock design is partly compression, partly friction of the baseplate on the reamed surface. Important for surgeons to know for that tactile “feel” during implantation.

  • Surgery, OT Restores Hand Function After Devastating Injury (Video)

Her body was shattered and her left hand hung motionless after she was struck by a truck during a morning run near her neighborhood. Dr Garrigues and his team repaired her shoulder and used complex surgery and extensive rehab to help her regain the use of her lifeless hand.

A Team of Orthopaedic Specialists in Her Corner

Hufner needed reconstructive surgery to repair the severe break in her arm. “I’ve rarely seen an arm as damaged and swollen as Beth’s,” said Grant Garrigues, MD, a Duke orthopaedic shoulder surgeon who was recommended to Hufner by a trusted family friend. Dr. Garrigues knew Hufner was worried about how she would function in the future. “I assured Beth that our entire orthopaedic team was in her corner, and we would do everything possible to get her active quality of life back," he said.
